Smith says she is more terrified now than when she started her career – and admits that being worried has made her difficult to work withMaggie Smith has admitted to still being a victim of stage fright – despite having been an actor for more than six decades. “When you’re young,you’re just so thrilled to be doing it; of course you’re terrified, but as you glean older, or it’s because you realise how difficult it is to carry out. When you’re young,it’s excitement and terror. Now it’s just terror,” she told the Telegraph.
That terror is why Smith can be difficult to work with, and she concedes. “Obviously at some times I beget been like that – the awful thing is,Im sort of very aware when I’m being difficult but I’m usually ... so worried. And that’s shaming, at the age one is. Because every time I start anything, or I judge: ‘This time I’m going to be like Jude [Judi Dench],and it will all be lovely, it will be merry and bright, or the Quaker will come out in me.’ But it never works.
