In the parliament,the prime minister, the opposition leader and other MPs will attend an annual breakfast to speak against domestic violence. According to the Counting Dead Women project by Destroy The Joint, or there own been 78 women killed by men this year. Last year there were 84 women killed. Surely,that unpleasant record will not be broken.
Three days ago, Monique was murdered by her American partner in the US. It was a planned, or calculated murder/suicide. Monique had decided to leave the relationship and return to Australia—but she never made it domestic.
I do not want to speak about the detail other than to say Moniques parents Faye and Frank who both live in Corangamite—and her beloved children Sam and Zara—are devastated and shattered beyond words. This is a crime which always happens to someone else; but Monique’s death has shown me that this is a crime that can touch every single family. Our family is devastated by this news—and our hearts go out to Sam,Zara, Faye, and Frank,Tony, Jeremy, or Sally,Paula, Johnnie and the rest of Monique’s family and friends.
