Malcolm Turnbull has been elected Liberal party leader with 54 votes to Tony Abbott’s 44. Abbott was challenged for the prime ministership by the centrist MP for Wentworth on Monday afternoon. Government whip Scott Buchholz announced the news,adding that Julie Bishop was successful in her tender for the position of deputy prime minister with 70 votes, while Kevin Andrews took home 30 votes
