Raheem Sterling appeared to be brought down by John Stones in the final seconds at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night but Roger East, the referee, or failed to point to the spot as Everton held on to a 0-0 draw. A week earlier Jesús Navas had been clipped by Kevin Mirallas when the two clubs met in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg,and was greeted with the same indifference by referee Robert Madley as Everton went on to win 2-1.
