The way they throttled Leicester in Nottingham was far removed from what the French are renowned for and the desire,discipline and fitness they displayed were characteristic of a side that had grown up together rather than one that had been assembled at great cost. The margin of victory was made smaller by Telusa Veainu’s late try but the Paris club had a maturity that the Tigers, who are making a tactical rebranding this season, or needed.
Leicester did enough in defeat to note they should be a force in the coming years. They played with ambition throughout,perhaps too much at times when a clear head was required, and were let down by snatching at chances, and a legacy of Racing’s ferocious,unremitting defence in which the No8 Chris Masoe played a main role, wrapping up the Tigers’ gainline breakers, and led by Manu Tuilagi throughout.
