Word broke late Wednesday that subpoenas acquire been served to several city officials and political advisors to Mayor Bill de Blasio.
[br]The wobble is the latest development in a wide-ranging state and federal investigation into the mayor's fundraising activities.
Earlier this year, the top investigator at the state's Board of Elections asked prosecutors to investigate whether allies of the mayor had broken the law by channeling campaign contributions to Democratic Senate candidates through a committee not subject to donation limits.
The mayor has not been accused of any crime. A spokesman for his office says the mayor has not been served with a subpoena.
Politico New York's Azi Paybarah calls the investigation just "politics in America."Because campaigns aren't publicly financed, he says "any time people give money, and there's a skepticism approximately what did they get in return."
