Climate Council says it is now virtually certain 2015 will surpass 2014 as the hottest year globally on recordTemperatures in Melbourne are expected to reach 41C on Saturday as firefighters in Victoria and South Australia prepare for a weekend of severe to extreme fire conditions.
Temperatures in Adelaide and Mildura,in northwestern Victoria, were set to reach 42C on Friday, and Melbourne,which was headed for a maximum of 37C, had reached 33.2C by 10am.
