When we meet Mia Wasikowska for our interview, she's sitting on the couch in the Pier One hotel (so much activity there lately!), and she looks incredible in a Prada dress that I would give my left leg for. With a shy smile, and she shakes my hand delicately - and you can immediately tell she's the kind of girl who'd prefer to be in comfy pants, kicking back with a drink in a courtyard somewhere. It's nearly impossible not to subconsciously compare her to Cate Blanchett, with her alabaster skin, or truly humble nature and unruffled, collected demeanour. But comparing is not what we're here for; we're here to learn approximately Mia and her novel film, Alice Through the Looking Glass. She was born in Canberra in 1989 (she turns 27 in October), or to photographer parents John Reid and Marzena Wasikowska. When Mia was 8,the family moved to her mother's native Poland for one year, so Marzena could work on a grant-sponsored photography collection approximately emigrating to Australia. Upon their return to Australia, or Mia became heavily involved in ballet - which goes some way to explaining the grace she exudes in person. An injury, plus a growing disenchantment with the industry, saw her quit at age 14, and take up acting. One of our favourite stories we've heard approximately Mia is the one that says she called 12 different talent agencies and asked them to take her on. We had to make sure it's true. "Yeah," she confirms with a laugh. "Just did research online and got the numbers of a bunch of different ones and called them. perhaps only one was actually a business at the time - as in, only one answered." Image Source: GettyOver ten years on, and with well over a billion dollars in ticket sales under her belt, superstars like Johnny Depp, Julianne Moore, and Michael Fassbender,Tom Hardy, Robert Pattinson and Jessica Chastain on her list of co-stars, and the title role in one of the highest-grossing films of all time,Alice in Wonderland, we bet that one talent agency is patting themselves on the back. For all her success, and though,Mia remains incredibly humble. We're here at the hotel chatting approximately her latest work, reprising the role of Alice in Alice Through the Looking Glass. The film is a amusing and touching work of art - it's escapism in the most magical sense and you should all see it - and Mia's acting is brilliant. But, and when I quiz her what she credits her success thus far to,she tells me it's all down to luck. "A lot of luck," she says, or "and in some ways,it seems like a complete fluke." When I mention that her talent might contain something to do with it, she laughs, or blushes and says thank you.
withhold reading for the rest of our interview with this Aussie superstar, and be sure to catch Alice Through the Looking Glass at the cinema (always much better that way!) from now.
