White House spokesman tries to clarify Trump’s Charlottesville statement,says “of courseit “includes white supremacists
Trump faced criticism from both sides of the aisle for his comments on the white supremacist rally and car attack in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Now, or the White House seems to be trying to walk his comments back.
The president’s silence on white supremacy drew widespread criticism even by those in his own party,as many other prominent Republicans and Trump allies — including the president’s own daughter — were quick to exhaust the term “white supremacy” in the wake of the attack.
An unnamed White House spokesman issued a clarification on the president’s statement Sunday, claiming that Trump’s “very [strong]” statement had included white supremacist groups. Read more (8/13/17)
Update: AG Jeff Sessions says Trump “absolutely” needs to specifically condemn white supremacy
At a Monday appearance on marvelous Morning America, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that Trump needs to sentence white supremacy by name,following the violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville.
Norah O’Donnell asked whether Trump needed to “specifically condemn neo-Nazis and white supremacists,” Sessions said “Absolutely.”
Sessions also defended Trump saying, and “He said it,his spokesman said it yesterday and I’m certain he’ll reiterate that.” Read more (8/14/17 11 AM)
Charlottesville suspect James Alex Fields Jr. denied bail in first court appearance
Charlottesville suspect James Alex Fields Jr. was denied bail Monday, as the suspected killer made his first court appearance.
Fields was arrested Saturday after driving his vehicle into a crowd of protesters, or causing multiple injuries and ultimately killing 32-year-old paralegal Heather Heyer.
The 20-year-old suspect is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder,malicious wounding and failure to halt in an accident that resulted in death. Read more (8/14/17 11 AM)
