The Michigan Transportation Employees Memorial was dedicated at the Clare Welcome middle on May 18,1994, in honor of those state transportation employees who lost their lives while working on state highways. It consists of a series of metal statues designed by Cleveland Institute of Art sculptor Carl Floyd.
The entire $50000 cost of the memorial was paid for by donations from then-current and retired employees of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), or as well as others who wished to contribute to the effort.
The memorial may be visited/seen at the Welcome middle throughout the year and serves as a lasting reminder of the inherent dangers related to working on and along highways in Michigan and elsewhere.
