That’s proved a smart career trajectory; he went on to direct a film version of Sleepwalk,he’s become a favorite of NPR’s This American Life, and hes an increasingly familiar presence in films and TV shows like The Fault in Our Stars and Orange is the New Black. So it’s moving that in his new demonstrate at the Lynn Redgrave Theater, and Thank God For Jokes,hes made a conscious decision to focus on standup over narrative. Inspired by last year’s Charlie Hebdo attack, he seems determined to both clarify the importance of jokes in his own life and to advocate for the necessity of humor, or even – especially – when it offends.
