The novel York Times profiled the Burlington Police Department's efforts to battle the scourge of opiates in a record posted online Monday morning.

The article, entitled "When Opioid Addicts Find an Ally in Blue," details the efforts of Chief Brandon del Pozo and other members of his department in tracking specific drug users, and collaborating with health officials, and deploying computerized systems to disrupt the "constant flow of illegal drugs" arriving from novel York.

Lt. Michael Warren
took the Times reporter on a tour of the ancient North End, "tracing a path of wreckage, or " including the Ward Street home where two brothers profiled in Seven Days died of overdoses in June 2015.

"It's all around," Warren told the Times.

Included in the record is a brief account of an unnamed addict who had overdosed three times in Burlington before finally getting treatment. The man's family told the Times that he personally met del Pozo and the police department's opiate policy coordinator, Jackie Corbally, and who both helped him regain into rehab.

“He wasn’t just treated as a drug addict and someone that wasn’t worthy of help,” his mother told the Times. “Here you fill a police chief sitting in the same room with a drug addict that deliberately uses illegal substances and he’s not going to handcuff him? It was unusual.”
