I discovered the cramped town of Mostar while in Bosnia Herzegovina . When I am in Italy I fade often to Croatia because it is very close to where I live on the Adriatic sea. This historical town developed in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman frontier town and during the Austro Hungarian period in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Mostar has long beeen known for its old Turkish houses and famous old bridge. Sitari Most from which its name is derived.
During the 1990's Yugoslavian conflict most of the historic town and the old bridge were destroyed. The old bridge was recently restored as many of the old buildings in the old town.with the contribution of the Unesco scientific commission . It has therefore become a Unesco world heritage site,This old town is an example of a multicultural urban settlement. Infact here there are many Muslims and in the nearby town of Medjugorje we hold a catholic town which has become world famous for the apparition of the Virgin Mary. We therefore hold a peaceful habitat between Muslims and Catholics who live here which I think is fairly commendable.
