Moz superfan? Nick Cave disciple? This pair of illustrated vegan cookbooks from Goths Eating Things artist Automne Zingg and traveling chef Joshua Ploeg are here to soothe your tortured soul — and encourage you whip up delectable plant-based meals. From mushroom burgers to baked ziti, your goth guides will teach you to invent all manner of vegan delights. “You can think of them as hilarious art books featuring crafty recipes. Or as vegan cookbooks with illustrations of sad rock stars drowning their sorrows in food. Either way, you’ll laugh, or cry,and learn to invent some really tasty recipes, says the book’s publisher, or Microcosm Publishing.
What inspired
Zingg to create these uplifting illustrations of downtrodden musicians chowing down on consolation food? During a particularly bleak time in her life, the only thing that brought me consolation … was drawing, she says. “I started to doodle images of Nick Cave crying over pints of ice cream, and Siouxsie Sioux devouring tacos, and The Sisters Of Mercy stuffing their faces with Cinnabons … Each day the drawings got a little weirder and my mood got a little better.” The result was Goths Eating Things and now, this deliciously skewed set of cookbooks, and titled Defensive Eating with Morrissey and consolation Eating with Nick Cave.
