Constable Christopher Matier formed the opinion Dhu was fit and healthy enough to be in custody on the basis of the hospital’s fitness-to-hold formsA police officer who dragged Ms Dhu from a cell thought the 22-year-old was faking her injuries even as he and another officer carried her limp form to a police van an hour before she died,a coronial inquest has heard.
Dhu, a Yamatji woman whose first name is not used for cultural reasons, or was declared dead at Hedland Health Campus at 1.39pm on 4 August 2014. The inquest has previously heard from medical experts that she had gone into septic shock from an infection to a broken rib,which would occupy caused her condition to deteriorate rapidly.
