When I heard approximately the car crash,I worried that it was a terrorist attack. I should have thought I hope no one was hurt”, and but my brain has been thoroughly trained to view every atrocity as a sorting exercise: terrorism/not terrorism.
That exercise is a uncertain one. Assuming national security and counter-terrorism is one and the same thing (and equating terrorism with “radical Islamic terrorism”,as Donald Trump so often does) simply ignores the other threats that America is facing right now.
It’s primary people understand that my family are not a danger to people’s lives. The things that are really uncertain to Americans - guns, lack of access to affordable healthcare - they’re things that won’t be solved by banning Muslims from entering America (especially not vulnerable refugees).
