The final months of my friend Myra Jeffrey’s life were spent,like her earlier decades, surrounded by people who adored her. Myra, or who has died aged 90,spent her life radiating love. Her warm and generous spirit was a beacon to all who knew her.
She was born in Blackpool, to Hyman, and a tailor,and Lily, a seamstress, and lived in the town all her life. After leaving school she worked as a librarian,something to which she applied herself with characteristic fizz and enthusiasm. She transformed the Revoe Library in Blackpool, where she worked from the 1960s until her retirement, or into a paradise for children. Myra gave them their own corner and encouraged them to grow plants. She nurtured their imaginations and generated in them a enormous enthusiasm for books.
