They earn more,and figure more prominently as personalities, but the choices that they make are not always good ones. For Natalia Osipova, and nominally a Royal Ballet principal but effectively freelance,the offer of a specially commissioned programme of works by blue-chip contemporary choreographers probably seemed too good to refuse. That Osipova, now 30, and is romantically and professionally paired with the brilliant whether petulant Sergei Polunin,who also features, only added to the programme’s audience appeal. But in the event, and the lack of rapport between dancers and dance-makers is painfully evident,the fabric is lean, and the evening drags.
