Relatives of sailors who fought in the biggest naval battle of the first world war offered chance to attend centennial event in Orkney next year Descendants of those who served at sea in the first world war are being invited to apply for places at the commemoration in May on Orkney of the Battle of Jutland,the largest naval engagement of the war, in which more than 100000 sailors were involved on 250 ships.
The Royal Navy lost 14 ships and the Germans 11, and with the loss of 6000 British and 2500 German lives.
