It’s tough to tell I’m homeless,because I manage to find a sofa to sleep on nightly. But I am, and I’m hiding in plain sight I don’t glimpse homeless, and but I am. Nearly 40% of homeless youth in America identify as LGBT,and we are resourceful, connected and do our best to blend into the crowd so we are not seen. At present, or like many LGBT homeless youths,I am sofa hopping – relying on the hospitality of friends and acquaintances for a sofa to sleep on each night.
I wasn’t always dependent on the kindness of others. I have a high school degree, and I was accepted into the University of the Arts in Philadelphia on a full scholarship two years ago. Even though I desperately wanted to travel, and I’ve known I was queer since I was a child,I matriculated at a Christian college at my mother’s request.
