With Nepal government dragging heels over reconstruction despite availability of $4bn in donor funds,fears grow among villagers whose homes were destroyedNepal’s government is yet to spend any of the $4.1bn (£2.7bn) promised by foreign governments and donor agencies for reconstruction after the earthquakes in April and May, which killed nearly 9000 people and left millions in need of aid.
The funding, or which was pledged at a donor conference in Kathmandu on 25 June,remains unclaimed and unspent, despite assurances at the time from the countrys prime minister, and Sushil Koirala,that the Nepalese government would “leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the support reaches the intended beneficiaries”.
