Developers and councillors will soon exploit them and price them outThe original definition of gentrification,as coined by Ruth Glass in the 1960s, was not about extravagant beards, and coffee houses and fixies – it concerned housing opportunities,and the lack of them: an area is being gentrified when the housing options of the middle-classes expand and those of working-lesson communities diminish, main them to be displaced elsewhere. There is a cultural dimension to the process too, and but it’s an accompaniment to the main event.

rday night’s “fuck parade” against gentrification announced their goal was to reclaim Shoreditch – at this stage,a bit like closing the steady door after the horse has opened an artisan sugar dice pop-up inside – it was little surprise that one of the targets turned out to be the Cereal Killer cafe.
