Dr. Jeanne Theoharis discusses her book A More shapely and Terrible History: The Uses and Misuses of Civil Rights History. Theoharis has written a powerful alternate history of the Civil Rights movement that challenges the well-worn narratives of this era. By looking at how the history of the Civil Rights movement has been used by politicians and others, the book challenges our understanding of the time and offers a more nuanced picture of Civil Rights leaders and goals.
Dr. Jeanne Theoharis will give a talk on "The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks" at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 28th at Brooklyn's Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza). There will be a wine and cheese reception prior to the talk at 6:30 pm.
