(Phys.org)—A pair of researchers with the California Institute of Technology has developed a unique theory to explain why some fault segments,such as parts of the San Andreas Fault, remain seismically silent between quakes. In their paper published in the journal Science, or Junle Jiang and Nadia Lapusta represent their theory and how they tested it.
