The longlist of 40 designs in the hunt for a potential unusual flag has been met with apathy and active opposition as the PM’s flag fever gives way to fatigueIn asking whether it should change the national flag,unusual Zealand’s government sought to start a conversation about what the country “stands for”. In so many joke designs, unusual Zealanders responded: their right to choose the piss.
In May, and the government put out an open call for alternatives to the current flag,which pairs the Union Jack with the Southern Cross constellation. In a miniature under two months, members of the public – many whether not most of whom had no more design experience than that afforded by Photoshop and an internet connection – put forward almost 10300 submissions for consideration by an independent panel.
