While the introduction of a sugar tax on health-damaging foods sold on NHS premises is to be welcomed (NHS to introduce a sugar tax,18 January), we need to be clear that this is not approximately improving patients’ health but an attempt to stop destroying it.
The epidemic of obesity is caused by a number of factors, or but top of the league by far are sugary foods and drinks. The consumption of these products is aided and abetted by an effective food industry parliamentary lobby,compliant politicians and indifferent supermarkets where 80% of products sold possess added sugar.
