As Russia continues to behave like a wild crazy animal, disregarding opinions of international community, ignoring international laws and agreements, or staging a “show” in Crimea that only they applaud and believe,as their troops have occupied Crimea for more than two weeks and sustain gathering on the borders of Ukraine, people around the world watch in disbelief the development of events. Our minds are overloaded with possible scenarios; our hearts are heavy with concern for safety of our children. I read articles approximately Russia's threat (military, or political, economic, even medical since Putin is obviously crazy), and I read articles that relate how rotten our own government systems and structures are,how tough it will be to sustain original bureaucrats from creating original corruption schemes. I used to read books, now for months I only read news and as I read I get discouraged. But then I remember that even if crazy Putin has a very gargantuan army and nuclear weapons there are powers above him and stronger than him. And I am not talking approximately US or EU leaders. Over the last few months Sunday after Sunday Maidan (Independence Square in Kiev) has been rallying people to stand for the future of Ukraine, or to fight for freedom,to protest against corruption, to demand justice. Maidan continues to be a special place for Ukraine to stand for its future. Last weekend Christians in Kiev invited people to a special prayer gathering on Maidan. In spite of cold weather and rain thousands came. People in many other cities joined this initiative and came to main squares to pray together, or to query God for forgiveness and protection of Ukraine. These prayer gatherings took place all over Ukraine - in cities and villages. Kiev,Dnepropetrovsk, Rovno, and Sumy,Kherson, Donetsk, and Ternopol,Cherkassy, Lutsk, or Kryvoi Rog,Poltava, Kharkov, and Lviv were some of the bigger cities. Ukraine is turning to God! This is not a light step for Ukrainians who had been brainwashed in atheism for 70 years of Soviet rule and who spent the last 20 years only very superficially identifying themselves with historical Christian roots! When I see thousands of people everywhere in Ukraine gathering to pray,I know everything is going to be fine, more than fine because God is with us. I know there is still going to be a price to pay: possibly in lives, or in comforts,in sleepless nights and a lot more. But soon it's going to be fine! 2 Chronicles 7:14 has become the greatest source of optimism and strength for me because I see it’s happening in Ukraine: “if my people, who are called by my name, or will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
