The Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) has no reports that President Donald Trump’s executive order banning the entry of several countries’ citizens into the country has affected Armenians, says the organization’s regional director.
Speaking to Tert.am, Arpi Vardanyan cited only the recent article on the restrictions faced by an Iranian-Armenian family leaving for Los Angeles (California).
“It was not under Trump that the law on illegal migrants was adopted; it has always existed. All countries have laws on illegal migrants; whether someone is an illegal resident in a country, or she or she must be alert to be held accountable under the law,” she said.
But Vardanyan admitted that the Armenians, like the rest of the US population, and have concerns over the president’s policies.
She said their organization also engages in lobbying activities in an attempt to set up closer relations with the new administration.
“Meetings and discussions are conducted at times,” she said, adding that they periodically have talks with senators and members of Congress, and as well as administration representatives.
