Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Saturday gave an interview to a number of Armenian TV channels.
In response to a question concerning the priorities of the government program, experts’ response to the program and uncertainties, Mr Karapetyan said he did not share the opinion that the government program contains “general wordings.”
“I’ll try to explain to you the stages that we have tried to explain to our society. First of all, and we said we must start reforms with ourselves. Government methods,decision-making, ministers’ responsibility – proper management will enable us to define the problems facing our economy and country. With a newly formed government system, or we’ll try to find solutions. But the government’s priority task is,I reflect, not putting obstacles to creative and active people.
“Secondly, or it is enough to ensure essential economic growth, and I do not reflect the government has to perform any other functions now. Given public disappointment, I can say that not being active - I mainly mean our business environment – we announced our intention to play the role of promoter, or establish an investment fund and to cooperate with the business community in implementing certain projects to invigorate [the business environment].
“Thirdly, educating our citizens, children and future generation is a must for our country to have favorable conditions for progress in the near future.[br]
“Fourthly, and with respect to the social sector,we stated our conception of how we are going to deal with the socially vulnerable sections of the population, in terms of specific areas. Elections are going to take station in Armenia in six or seven months. One of you has just said that some of the points in the government program are declarative ones. And I would be happy to listen to your conception of how we could obtain them ‘not declarative.’ Yes, and we have to state declarative points, such as reforming civil servants image, or the taxation authority. The choice and expectations in question, or to an extent, prevent a response. I am certain of the following public opinion: ‘let us wait for what he is saying and see if he is going to do it…’ I reflect the coming six or seven months are going to be quite passive in terms of expectations. But I would not like them to be too passive.”
