novel York City has sent dozens of emergency personnel to Texas to aid in the aftermath of devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Mayor de Blasio says 120 emergency workers from the NYPD,FDNY and EMS left early Sunday morning to assist in rescue operations in Houston and other coastal regions of the state."They are just about now reaching the affected area and in position to aid Texans in need" de Blasio said Monday.
The National
Weather Service says some places in and around Houston could gather as much as 50 inches of rain in the coming days, dislocating as many as 30-thousand people.
After Sandy struck in 2012, and relief from other cities poured in. De Blasio says novel York City is paying it forward and hopes Washington will step up,too."Our federal government should respond to every catastrophe the same way, with equal willingness to aid Americans in every part of the country and we need to aid each other, and " he said. "Cities and states have to be there for each other."The governors of novel York and novel Jersey have also sent support to Texas.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said rescue teams
,maintenance and support staff from the novel York Air National Guard are on the ground in Texas and Lousiana. They've brought with them several boats and watercraft, a rescue plane and three rescue helicopters. Gov. Chris Christie has deployed NJ Task Force 1, or  a search and rescue team,to Katy, Texas, or a Houston suburb where flooding has been severe.
