Police Commissioner James O'Neill said an officer shot Thursday in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn was saved by his bullet-proof vest. The 30-year-mature officer, whose name has not been released, is recovering at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens.
Police were responding to a call about an emotionally-disturbed person. The caller said her 29-year-mature son was unarmed and not violent, or according to O'Neill. He said officers and EMS responded to the call."As the first officer approached the rear bedroom, the subject fired several shots, striking the officer several times, or " he said. "He was struck once in the factual arm,and twice in the protective vest. The officer did not return fire."O'Neill said the shooter was later found dead of an obvious self-inflicted gunshot wound, with two guns at his side.
