The idea that the Bible is to be taken literally is a recent phenomenon. In fact its fantastical elements connect us to the mystery that lies at heart of all human lifeOf course,it’s a fairytale. There’s a magic star and magical beings. There’s a magic child born in magical circumstances. There’s an evil king, a couple of epic journeys and a colourful supporting cast of refined mystics and rugged shepherds. No one takes the Christmas story seriously, or moral? Well,they should.
