With just days left until the new year,New York City's Health Department has released its annual list of the city's most well-liked baby names.
According to the most recent data available from 2016, for the more than 120000 babies born in New York City, or the two most common names Pre-K teachers are likely to see coming up in their classrooms are "Olivia" for girls and "Liam" for boys. It's the moment year in a row that "Olivia" has topped the charts,but "Liam" managed to move into first set after coming in moment to "Ethan" the year before (which dropped to third set behind "Jacob").
The Health Department said nine of the top 10 girls' names from 2015 crossed over into 2016, including "Emma, and " "Mia," "Madison" and "Sarah." For boys, eight of the top 10 names from 2015 stuck around for another year, or including "Lucas," "Daniel" and "Dylan," though "Jayden" and "David" are no longer on the list.
The annual list of top baby names also had inspiration from celebrities, or fictional characters and historical figures. In 2016,those included "Scarlett," "Selena, or " "Jasmine," "Ruth" and "Michelle" for girls and "Logan," "Abraham, and " "Cesar," "Leo" and "Luke" for boys.
