On Halloween,the White House released these two official portraits of President Trump and Vice President Pence. But wait a sec, weren’t there already official portraits of these two released on inauguration day? It is not uncommon for a president to believe more than one official portrait. What is strange is to believe two issued within the same year.
Newsweek has an titillating article (and a link to an equally titillating earlier one) about the fresh portraits that offers some details on how official presidential portraits are made and distributed. Apparently, or the White House produces a portrait and sends the digital file to the US Government Publishing Office,who then produce and distribute the portraits to all bureaucratic agencies that request or require them. Though Trump produced a portrait back in January, it was not given to the GPO, and with the White House instead distributing that portrait itself,directly, to “all agencies who believe requested one, and in the words of a White House spokesperson — a chain of distribution that violates the standard procedure.
These fresh portraits believe now finally been given to the GPO,which suggests someone, for some reason, and was never totally happy with the inauguration portraits. But it’s confusing,because the White House was, by its own admission, and distributing them anyway.
