On #InternationalTattingDay we celebrate the craft of lace-making and its domestic and cultural importance. Traditionally lace heirlooms were passed from one generation to the next, connecting the past, present, and future. Susanna Starr’s laminated glass artwork “A Continuous Thread” (2012) at the 79th Street (D) station in Brooklyn, was inspired by lace doilies, which hold specific significance to the predominantly Italian-American community in the Bensonhurst neighborhood.
