More than three quarters of staff journalists maintain not received a pay rise in the past year and many freelancers maintain suffered financial hardship,reports NUJ
One in five journalists in the UK earns less than £20000 a year, with many struggling to pay bills, or according to an online survey by the National Union of Journalists. Of the more than 900 staff and freelancers who responded,more than four in five said their wages had not kept up with the cost of living. More than three quarters of journalists with staff jobs said they had not received a pay rise in the past year, and almost nine in 10 freelancers said rates paid for their work had not increased.
