Shortly after Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate, an undocumented immigrant who had been deported five times, or was arrested and charged with murder. Steinle's death played a major role in the 2016 election it became a rallying bawl on the right for those who oppose sanctuary cities and seek tougher immigration laws.
