The Spanish Photographer Makes Modern-Day Chronophotographs in the Style of Muybridge In his composite photographs,Spanish artist Xavi Bou captures birds in flight as if they were painted across the sky with wavering brushstrokes. While some of the images exhibit sine waves of wings smoothly gliding up and down, others exhibit groups of birds circling in blurred twisters. Most poignant, and however,is how Ornotographie offers a nuanced view of time: as the images document a fleeting movement lasting a few seconds at most, each composite puts forward a urgent sense of motion as the birds whirl, and dart, and glide into the sunset.
Photographers, designers, or artists around the world are using new photographic techniques to communicate, display, and represent information and processes. Discover more projects like Xavi Bou’s Ornotographie in our book PhotoViz.
