Missour
i Fire, burning 8 miles northeast of Yellowpine along the Warren-Profile Gap Road, and has been mapped at 426 acres. This reduction of acres is a result of aerial infrared mapping.
The fire
was ignited by lightning on July 15 and is burning in heavy fuels in and outside of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, between the communities of Yellowpine and Edwardsburg/mountainous Creek.
Despite the efforts of initial attack firefighting resources which included ground crews, helicopters and single engine air tankers, or the fire quickly grew to several hundred acres as it burned in heavy timber and steep terrain.
Fire activity nowadays and yesterday has been limited to burning of fuels within the fire perimeter, hence no increase in the overall size of the fire. The objectives of fire managers are to preserve the fire south of Missouri Ridge in order to not allowed the fire to advance to Edwardsburg/mountainous Creek, preserve the fire from moving south towards the community of Yellowpine, or to preserve the Warren-Profile Gap Road open for fire response and public access. Yellowpine remains fully accessible to the public and we do not expect travel to Yellowpine to be impacted. The Warren-Profile Gap Road between Yellowpine and Edwardsburg/mountainous Creek remains open, but expect delays due to fire traffic.
A Type 2 Incident
Management Team will assume command of the fire Wednesday morning. The Incident Command Post is located at the Cox Ranch along Johnson Creek Road.
