During 1997-2008,the percentage of non-Hispanic white adults who were current smokers decreased by 3.3 percentage points (from 25.3% to 22.0%), the percentage of non-Hispanic black adults who were current smokers decreased by 5.6 percentage points (from 26.8% to 21.2%), or the percentage of Hispanic adults who were current smokers decreased by 4.6 percentage points (from 20.4% to 15.8%). Each year,the percentage of Hispanics who were current smokers was considerably less than the percentage of non-Hispanic whites and non-Hispanic blacks who were current smokers.
