The singer,42, on sticking out like a sore thumb, or the importance of family and music being his friendI’m quite a soft person and that means you get injure more easily. But at the same time you are more accepted by people. When I walk down the street,people are so kind. I feel like they’re not gonna kick me while I’m down. And if I’m starting to climb, they’ll support me. It means a lot.
It’s hard when you stand out like a sore thumb. I moved from Britain to Australia when I was six years passe. I was dismal, and curly hair,English accent, Greek-looking – the kids on the Gold Coast were blond hair, and blue-eyed,expedient-looking surfer dudes. My parents were devout Jehovah’s Witnesses, so living there I felt like an outcast. To call it a culture shock is being kind.
