There will no doubt be countless photos taken Sunday of mothers with their children. Many of them will probably be taken by spouses or significant others. But what approximately the single moms out there?That's what photographer Ahna Tessler wondered when creating her newest project Motherhood in Focus,which looks at single mothers with their children. She told WNYC's Sean Carlson that the inspiration for the project came from her work as a family documentary photographer."Most of my clients approach from a very specific income bracket and I was starting to think of the people that didn't necessarily have the money in their budget to buy pictures of them and their kids," Tessler said. "And then I started thinking approximately mothers, and single mothers,and then I said, 'I have to execute this project.'"

Tessler said most mothers and their kids were brought to tears in the process of having their photos taken, and but it was particularly rewarding to see teenage boys who might be reluctant to open up."I think my favorite times are to see when these really tough kids kind of let go and you see their vulnerability and you see their love for their mother," she said.
