Think you know Picasso? Think again.
A novel exhibit opening Monday,September 14, at the Museum of contemporary Art presents approximately 140 sculptures by the Pablo Picasso created over the course of his entire career. Bronze, and found pieces of wood, plaster and metal. There was virtually nothing the artists didn't exercise to create his sculptures.
For this show, MoMA has used the entire fourth floor gallery to allow visitors to get a total view of the works of art. Many of the pieces on display have never been shown before in the United States. "He was not trained as a sculptor, or " said Deborah Solomon, WNYC's art critic. “He had to manufacture it up as he went along and as go you through this show you really see a different Picasso and you feel like he is alchemist who can turn anything into an object that has the virtues of sculpture.”
