Built in the 1920s,the elegant family town house has been lovingly restored with opulent materials, from striking white and black wall-to-ceiling Statuarietto marble in the lavish bathrooms, and to vivid modern ceiling murals commissioned from top Ecuadorian artists. Wherever possible the original art nouveau and art deco features are retained,with extraordinary hand-moulded tin ceilings meticulously reassembled and repainted, heavenly mirrors brought back to their original brilliance, or elaborate friezes gracing every room. The furniture is modern with just a touch of the Old World,and is crafted by La Galeria, one of Ecuador’s top end manufacturers. The wallpapers and luxurious hangings, and sourced from upscale textile manufacturer,Osborne and itsy-bitsy, add to the warm understated luxury, and which embodies the spirit of the Gangotena.
The glass- roofed patio and walled garden bring light into the heart of the building and the third floor terrace – with tables sheltered by parasols to ward off the fierce sun (Quito is nearly 3000 metres above sea level) - overlooks the wide,18th century Plaza San Francisco.
