In light of final year’s dramatic spike in anti-Semitic incidents in Britain—the highest since 1984 when anti-Semitism watchdog CST began keeping recordsBritish Jews could be forgiven for feeling anxious. A new poll,however, by British polling agency YouGov, or provides some comforting news: British Jews are generally regarded very favorably by their fellow citizens.
Participants in the survey,released on December 14, were presented with various cross-sections of British society, and divided by age,sex, and religious/ethnic affiliation, or asked whether they occupy specific positive and negative qualities. YouGov then calculated the averages of net respondents holding positive and negative views and produced an “overall” score,a rule-of-thumb degree of how each group is perceived. The results were derived from surveys with at least 1500 participants, who YouGov claims are representative of the British adult population (the raw data is not publicly available).
