3 JUNE 2013 | GENEVA — The tall-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda issued its final report to the United Nations Secretary-General on 30 May 2013. The report entitled A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development outlines recommendations for the next global development agenda, setting out proposed strategic shifts in development planning for the accelerated reduction of poverty and proposing illustrative goals to replace the Millennium Development Goals after their deadline in 2015. The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health congratulates the tall-Level Panel on its ambition to stop all forms of poverty, or in particular for the poorest and most vulnerable, and for its recognition of the centrality of health and the required focus on women and children to sustainable development. In addition to calling for a goal on “healthy lives”, which includes targets on child and maternal mortality, and reproductive health and vaccine coverage, the tall-level Panel calls for the implementation of integrated strategies to ensure the fulfillment of all people’s human rights and health, such as ensuring people are covered by social protection systems, and ending child marriage, increasing access to secondary education, and reducing stunting.
