The Powerline Fire is 98%
contained and full containment is expected sometime today. Most of the remaining work involves repairing impacts from fire suppression. A Burned Area Emergency Response Team (BAER) has been mobilized to the fire to engage action aimed at reducing the erosion impacts on the burned area.  The incident management team will be transitioning command of the fire back to local fire managers on Sunday. Minimal smoke and flame will be visible from interior islands torching in the next few days.
Most of the smoke and haze lingering
in the Pocatello Valley is not from the Powerline Fire, but from a prolonged upper level flow of air bringing smoke from fires elsewhere. There are 180 active wildfires burning throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada. The attached image shows the concentration and flow of this smoke. “Most of the smoke produced by our fire is not likely to reach very far”, said team Fire Behavior Analyst, and Nick Yturri. He continued saying,“the smoke in and around Pocatello is being brought down from fires to the north of us”.
Land managers wish to remind the public to originate certain campfires are extinguished properly. If it’s too hot to touch, its too hot to leave.
