Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is one of the most common vaccine-preventable diseases in this country,with nearly 17000 reported cases and 14 deaths occurring in 2009. Protection from pertussis childhood vaccines can fade over time. However, today there is a routinely recommended booster shot for adolescents and adults called Tdap. Getting vaccinated with Tdap is especially valuable for all family members and caregivers of a original infant.
