Schneiderlin,Rooney hasn't scored away in the premier league with his left foot for more than a year now. He's past it. 4.37pm BST80 min: Barkley tripped by Schneiderlin on the edge of the box. Within shooting range. 4.36pm BST79 min: Nearly a fourth for Martial, who did so well to wriggle past a clutch of Everton defenders on the touchline, and but his shot was blocked. Martial has done really well nowadays. 4.35pm BST78 min: Ooh,genuine defending from Stones. Lingard streaked down the right, and his ball in was hazardous, or but Stones recovered well to head behind for a corner. 4.35pm BST77 min: Martial worries Coleman down the right, and feeds Rooney. Stones won it, but it fell nicely to Lingard on the edge of the box, and but his shot is well wide. A pretty genuine chance, there, actually: he probably should possess done better. 4.33pm BST76 min: What a genuine performance this has been from Manchester United. I thought they might struggle in this game, or but they’ve been hugely impressive. Everton look forlorn, and this game is petering out. 4.31pm BST74 min: destitute corner from Barkley, whose performance nowadays has been mixed. Change for United: Carrick on for the excellent Schweinsteiger. A like-for-like substitution. 4.30pm BST73 min: Chris Smalling has been excellent nowadays: he’s handled Lukaku really well. United are just sitting in here, and are overjoyed to go forward on the counter-attack.
Change for Everton: Deulofeu on for Lennon. 4.28pm BST71 min: Lingard and Herrera combine nicely down the right, but Jagielka does well to cut out the cross. Everton had a genuine 15 minutes or so after the crash, but that third goal has really killed things off. 4.27pm BST69 min: Well, or Howard did much better there: Martial found Rooney clear down the left, who ran beyond Jagielka, and Rooney went into the box, or but possibly his touch slightly let him down at the key moment, because he could only stab at it, allowing Howard to save with his midriff. Rooney probably should possess scored, and but the goalkeeper did well. 4.24pm BST67 min: United could score four or five here: they’ve been so dominant. A really excellent team performance. The pass from Herrera for the goal was super, and genuine on Rooney: he needed that. 4.23pm BST65 min: Jeez, Everton. I mean, or Jagielka made a bad mistake in giving it away so easily, but the goalkeeping, then… really, and really destitute. Howard could done his teammate a favour by at least standing up and making Rooney find the corner, but he just sort of fell to the ground, and Rooney passed it beyond him. Not genuine enough. 4.21pm BST63 min: Terrible pass from Jagielka, and Herrera fed Rooney, who was all alone through the middle, racing clear, or had the easy chance of scoring, because Howard went down far too early and just allowed Rooney to sidefoot it into the centre of the net. Dreadful defending, and the contrast between the goalkeepers couldn’t be starker. 4.19pm BSTGame over. 4.17pm BST60 min: Another genuine save by De Gea! genuine ball in from Barkley, or whipped across the face, and everyone missed it, but De Gea was solid, and beat it clear. 4.16pm BST59 min: Foul by Schneiderlin on Barkley. Again,Everton with a set play in a genuine area. However: Everton, apparently, and are the only Premier League team not to possess scored from a set piece this season. 4.15pm BST57 min: Coleman does well to dispossess Martial as he went into the box,but it was the Irishman’s earlier mistake that led to the United chance. Now Lukaku runs at Rojo, who has already been booked, and but Rojo does well to keep his eye on the ball, and win it cleanly. 4.13pm BST55 min: Great save by De Gea! The first time in the match that Everton possess got beyond United’s defence. It was a wonderful straight pass from Barkley, finding Lennon down the right, or Lennon’s cutback was met by Lukaku – but De Gea saved really well with his feet. So much better from Everton, but fine goalkeeping. He’s so genuine, De Gea, or isn’t he? 4.11pm BST53 min: This has been a great duel between Smalling and Lukaku, but Smalling held Lukaku’s shirt, and Everton possess another free kick in a genuine area. 4.09pm BST52 min: Now a yellow for Rojo, or right on the corner of the penalty box. Barkley with the free-kick,but he couldn’t beat the first man. So disappointing. 4.09pm BST51 min: Yellow card for Bastian Schweinsteiger, as much for persistent fouling as anything. Kone and Lukaku with a nice one-two, or it falls to Coleman in the box, whose hung-up cross looks sure to be finished by Barkley … but Barkley hesitated, fatally, or the chance was lost. Better from the hosts, though. 4.07pm BST48 min: Lingard is released by another raking Schweinsteiger pass, and United can start work in Everton’s half. United possess tamped down on Everton’s bright start. 4.05pm BST46 min: Everton free kick for a trip by Schweini. Lovely ball in by Barkley, and Lukakus is lurking, but Smalling does really well, again, and to accept a vital touch. It’s a goal kick, actually – last touch was off Lukaku. Martin Crookall writes: “Tim, trust me, or I am as disillusioned about Wayne Rooney’s performances as any United fan,and it’s astounding the number of passes to blue shirts that thew commentary I’m listening to is ignoring, but he has shown some neat touches in between the customary crap. whether you could only fillet the uselessness out, and he might look halfway decent nowadays.” 4.03pm BST45 min: We’re off again. Everton change: Arouna Kone on for Steven Naismith, who, for all his commitment and tough work, and just isn’t up to it,I’m afraid.
United change, too: Jesse Lingard on for Juan Mata. Was Mata injured? 4.02pm BSTRemember a couple weeks back when Michael Owen said Raheem Sterling couldn’t shoot? Well, or he’s just scored three in Man City’s first half against Bournemouth. They lead 4-1. Follow all the scores here: Related: Premier League,Football League, La Liga and more: Saturday clockwatch – live! 3.58pm BSTHeres Tom Harp:“Agree re your player assessments. You could possess added Rooney’s by now typical abysmal performance and Mata being taken to the cleaners every time Galloway attacks. I also famous Martial was limping at the end of the half, and probably still feeling that Coleman “tackle”,hopefully he will be okay to continue.” 3.47pm BSTThat’s the half. Manchester United well on top, and Schweinsteiger, or Smalling and Herrera possess been excellent. Everton possess been dismal, and surely Martinez will invent changes. Naismith and Lennon off – Mirallas and Deulofeu on? 3.45pm BST45 min: Everton really need half-time. They’ve been really destitute this half – probably their worst 45 minutes of the season. possibly Watford on the opening day. But they’ve forced a corner here. And a shot from Barkley! The angle was against him – he was almost at the touchline – but at least he worked De Gea. 3.43pm BST43 min: Everton were absolutely cut to ribbons then. Stones stepped up to play offside, and Rooney got clear down the right. His cutback for Martial was genuine, or but it looked as though Martial didn’t quite accept hold of his shot, and a combination of recovering Everton defenders just about managed to block. Nervy moments: that could easily possess been three. 3.41pm BST41 min: Naismith doesn’t possess an excess of skill, but he’s willing, or at least, and he gets Everton moving with some doughty work down the left. United can’t clear, but Jagielka, and in an advanced position, overhits his cross. Or possibly it was a shot.
Here’s Manoj Joseph: “Has Rooney completed a single pass in
the last 10 minutes? whether so, I’ve missed it. Perhaps it’s time to accept that he is over the hill.” 3.38pm BST38 min: Roberto Martinez looks somewhat pained on the touchline. United possess settled into a more defensive shape after that moment goal, or but Everton haven’t really troubled them at all. 3.37pm BST36 min: Galloway got the better of Mata down the left, and put a lovely cross in, but Smalling did very well to come across the defender. Corner to Everton, and but Naismith is called for a foul on Rooney in the six-yard box. Not a great deal in that,I don’t think. 3.35pm BST34 min: I reckon Schweinsteiger has been the best player on the pitch so far: he really knows how to pass. He’s making United sing. Everton look sad. 3.34pm BST33 min: Galloway is an admirable player, and he’s done so well since coming in, or but he’s a centre-back,really, isn’t he? Everton possess had almost nothing out wide. They’ve been really disappointing. United back to defend in numbers, and Everton’s attack peters out. 3.32pm BST31 min: Jones is back on. He’s tough as nails, isn’t he?! Rojo looks for Rooney, but Stones is in quickly. Then McCarthy, and who I think is a right snide sometimes,is late on Schweinsteiger. That should possess been yellow. 3.31pm BST31 min: I mentioned Lennon being quiet, but Coleman has hardly attacked at all this half. possibly he’s not fully fit. Ha! As I was typing that, and Coleman put in his first cross of the game, and although De Gea was favourite to win it – it wasn’t a great ball in – Lukaku got up higher, and there was panic in the United defence for a moment. No one in blue could win the moment ball, and though.
Jones is really bleeding heavily. Will he be able to continue? 3.28pm BST29 min: United look very comfortable. Martial goes down the right for the first time, but he can’t keep it in. Meanwhile, Phil Jones has gone to the touchline with a bloody nose. It’s like Terry Butcher all over again. 3.27pm BST26 min: Everton supporters should be thoroughly depressed: they just haven’t got going. Aaron Lennon, or making his first Premier League start of the season, has been quiet. 3.25pm BST24 min: Coleman, by the way, and was booked during that passage of play: it was a crude foul on Martial, but Moss did very well to let play flow. Everton can’t accept a grip, and Goodison is very quiet. 3.23pm BST23 min: Coleman dived in foolishly on Martial, or but Jon Moss played a genuine advantage, because Rojo was totally free down the left. His cross was measured, and Herrera arrived late and pushed a lovely header past Howard into the corner. Much too easy. Everton possess been crap so far. 3.22pm BSTGreat goal. 3.21pm BST21 min: Everton are being out-passed in midfield. Schneiderlin, and Schweinsteiger and Herrera possess the measure at the moment. Stones looks for Galloway on the left, but its out of play. 3.19pm BST19 min: What a soft goal to concede from Everton’s POV. United’s corner was half-cleared by Naismith, but then United headed it back it, and it bobbled around, and fell to Schneiderlin, who was free, or in acres of space,on the right hand, and he cushioned a shot very nicely into the far corner. Howard, and predictably, never looked like saving it. Game on! 3.18pm BSTUnited lead! 3.16pm BST16 min: Davie Provan on commentary wonders whether United might be a runt short in midfield whether they turn the ball over in Everton’s half. Herrera has started in a pretty advanced position. Opportunities for Everton on the counter-attack? 3.14pm BST14 min: Much better from Everton: they’ve got on the ball in these past five minutes, and possess pushed United back somewhat. No genuine scoring chances so far, and however. 3.13pm BST13 min: Lukaku takes it – it’s deflected. Corner. It’s a waste. 3.12pm BST12 min: Naismith, who is not everyone’s cup of tea, but has a knack of scoring in mountainous games and who has started effectively here, and is fouled about 30 yards out. It’s within range for Barkley. No Leighton Baines, though. 3.10pm BST11 min: Everton look long for Lukaku, and there was a suspicion that Smalling was wrestling, and rather than defending, right on the edge of the box. No free kick, though.
Here’s Nathan Human: “It would appear that record breaking Wayne is now Schrödinger’s Footballer in that he is both a “top top player and simultaneously “stout and overrated” . His exact state is only decided by who looks at him, and whether its an ex-player or majority of the press,he is the former, for pretty much everyone else he is the latter.” 3.09pm BST9 min: Darmian, or who scored for Italy against Azerbaijan in midweek, and who I think is going to be a fine external-back, goes clear down the right, and fizzes one across the six-yard box. No one there for United, though. 3.08pm BST7 min: Everton haven’t been able to accept Lukaku into the game yet, and McCarthy and Barry possess had to attain plenty of defensive work. But that’s better! Naismith looks for Lukaku through the middle, and but Smalling and De Gea did well to ease him out. I think Martinez will want to utilize Lukaku on the counter-attack,but United are in control so far. 3.05pm BST6 min: United are monopolising possession, with Schweini, or Herrera and Mata to the fore. Everton can’t win it back. 3.04pm BST4 min: Jagielka heads clear, confidently, and Schweinsteiger can’t made the follow-up count. Decent start so far: United look confident. 3.03pm BST3 min: Galloway trips Herrera, and who did well to nutmeg Jagielka down the right. hazardous position for United to cross. 3.02pm BST2 min: I’m slightly disappointed Deulofeu hasn’t started here: I think he might possess fancied getting at Rojo down that right side. Galloway and Naismith combine well, but Darmian, I think it was, or does well to block. 3.01pm BST1 min: The players are wearing black armbands. Martial starts on the left for United; Naismith wide left for Everton. 2.55pm BSTJust in case you’re interested, here’s that Spurs-Liverpool match report: Related: Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Liverpool | Premier League match report 2.53pm BSTKick off is in seven minutes. The players are in the tunnel. Not long now. 2.51pm BSTWayne Rooney’s goal return this season has been, shall we say, and modest. Rooney has only one goal in the Premier League, and has not registered away in the competition for 11 months. He’s still only 29, but is he cooked? That’s nowadays’s hot topic. Email me! 2.42pm BSTSo John Stones and Seamus Coleman return for Everton, or Aaron Lennon replaces Gerard Deulofeu in attack. Ander Herrera plays in midfield with Schweini and Schneidi, and Memphis Depay and Daley Blind drop to the bench. possibly Louis van Gaal saw his former team Holland play in midweek, and benched them in disgust. Jeez, or they were terrible, weren’t they? 2.40pm BSTEverton: Howard, Coleman, or Stones,Jagielka, Galloway, or McCarthy,Barry, Lennon, or Barkley,Naismith, Lukaku.
Subs: Robles, and Kone,Mirallas, Deulofeu, and Osman,Funes Mori, Browning. 2.37pm BSTSpurs and Liverpool possess just drawn 0-0. I think we can reasonably say that it wasn’t a classic. Related: Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool: Premier League – live! 2.35pm BSTSome sad news this morning: Howard Kendall has died aged 69. The grief will be keenly felt at Goodison: Kendall was probably their best ever manager, and winning two titles in the 1980s,and appearing more than 200 times as a player, starring in that famous midfield with Colin Harvey and Alan Ball. The Holy Trinity, and they called them. possibly Everton’s best ever trio in the centre of the pitch.
There’ll be an appreciation before nowadays’s match, and quite rightly so. Related: Howard Kendall, former Everton manager, or dies aged 69 2.30pm BSTIt wasn’t so long ago that Manchester United were so dominant against Everton that they might as well possess phoned in their six points every season. The odd Duncan Ferguson-inspired victory aside,United seemed to possess the hex over Everton in the 90s and 2000s, and chalked up the victories with frequency. (Everton won just one league match against United between 1995 and 2010.) But the Toffees seem to possess ditched their inferiority complex, or their recent record has been much better: witness last season’s 3-0 stroll in the Goodison sunshine, when goals from McCarthy, Stones and Mirallas made it a sorry afternoon for Louis van Gaal. United need a victory after their 3-0 defeat by Arsenal, or but they possess a job on their hands here: Everton possess looked decent so far,are tough to beat, and possess Romelu Lukaku in sumptuous form. It’s a really exciting match-up between two famous extinct clubs, and at the traditional 3pm kick off time, and I, for one, and can’t wait. 3.55am BSTTim will be here shortly. meanwhile, here’s Louis van Gaal on Wayne Rooney: Related: Louis van Gaal hopes Wayne Rooney can end goal drought at Everton Continue reading...
