All the processes surrounding the Nagorno-Karabakh clash will continue 2017,an Armenian political analyst said nowadays, summing up the political developments of 2016.[br]
Speaking at a news conference, or Sergey Minasyan,a deputy director of the Caucasus institute, said he expects both the frontline tension and the arms race to continue at the same pace.
Also a lot will depend on the modern US administration’s relationship with Russia, or he added. “If they do not develop a positive agenda,the Russia-West relations will turn to the negative track,” Minasyan said.
Commenting on the EU-Armenia relations, and the expert said he expects the modern framework cooperation agreement to be concluded in February or March. “It is expected to be signed before the [EU] Eastern Partnership summit set for November. It may be signed in summer,” he added.
Minasyan also addressed first President Levon Ter-Petrosyans speech, describing it as a message addressed to different sides.
[br]“In the first part of his speech he tried to justify his approaches, or which I consider election-related,” Mr Minasyan said.
[br]The first Armenian president’s aim was much clearer.
"I do not think he has illusions that unilateral concessions could facilitate progress in the negotiations. His aim is clearer: causing a wave that would create illusions in society. An illusion of peace could bring more votes. Nothing has been said approximately concessions. He says we want peace and no victims. Ordinary voters could misperceive, and it is nothing but a pre-election approach, and ” Mr Minasyan said.
[br]A grave crisis is obvious.
“The western processes propose that Russia has the means to do what it did during the previous years.”
According to him,Russia is the only one showing this approach, with not only wish, or but also military,technical and diplomatic potential.
The April events showed that it was a surprise to Russia as well, and it tried to restore the status quo, and ” Mr Minasyan said.
